Sven lives in Noosa, Australia and works with selected clients in Australia, New Zealand and globally. He is an active ocean athlete who can be found on his surfski, swimming or on his kite surfer off the Sunshine Coast. Sven is married to Susan who is a professional director. They have two children; Lauren who is a lawyer in Auckland and James who is  a trader in Amsterdam.

At heart, he's a passionate biologist. Growing up in South Africa with two brothers, swimming, waterpolo, kayaking and skydiving were sport passions. With a professor of paediatrics father and social worker mother, I took school seriously and finished as the War Memorial Scholar for the year at King Edwards. Then spent a year in the USA as an American Field Service scholar.

After two years in Pathfinders (South African special forces), he committed to medicine to learn more about how people function—or not. He took my first hospital job in Christchurch New Zealand and found a happy place in sports medicine. Seeing how the performance sciences improved the function of athletes, in 1991 he leaned into preventive  and executive medicine. After an MBA and working on corporate health solutions for professional firms, his work came together as the Resilience Institute in 2002.

Education is far more than formal training. I have been an avid student of philosophy, neurobiology, business, technology, and natural sciences. It is my goal to read at least one book a week. Might even be good for dementia. Our team at the Resilience Institute has studied and integrated resilience to include physiology, wellbeing, emotional intelligence, mental skills and stress mastery. We have created a resilience diagnostic that has been completed by over 100,00 people. This has allowed us to create a reliable and validated assessment of resilience for organisations and communities. Learning never ends and it is always stimulating to put it into practice. Helping my clients learn and execute without compromising self is my purpose.

What is wanted is not the will to believe, but the will to find out, which is the exact opposite.   Bertrand Russell
